Dr. Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen, a German physicist was the first winner
of the Nobel Prize in physics for the discovery of X-rays in 1901. He
called the newly discovered emissions X-rays where X symbolizes the unknown
in the field of mathematics. His discovery represents a fundamental component
of imaging and diagnosis in the field of medicine.
